Career story: Ville Strandman

“An idea-rich and entrepreneurial culture” – Ville Strandman found the community he was looking for at Simucube

Ville Strandman graduated with a Master of Science in Industrial Engineering from Tampere University of Technology in 2020. We wrote his thesis on production development and soon after graduation, he began working as a procurement engineer on a nuclear power plant project, specializing in nuclear waste disposal. However, he found himself longing to return to his student city of Tampere. That’s when he spotted a Simucube recruitment ad on LinkedIn – at just the right moment.

“After working in a large corporation, I wanted to try something smaller and closer-knit. I missed the sense of community you find in smaller workplaces, and Simucube’s young team really appealed to me,” Strandman recalls.

Today, Strandman works as a Supply Chain Manager at Simucube. He originally joined the company as a Supply Chain Specialist, ensuring production runs smoothly by keeping materials stocked, sourcing prototypes, and negotiating with suppliers.

“I get to work on a wide range of projects here, with more freedom and responsibility than in the corporate world. My favorite part is tackling new projects – especially when there aren’t any inconveniences,” Strandman says with a chuckle.

Unique products and first-class quality

One of the aspects Strandman appreciates most is Simucube’s high-quality products, although explaining these niche products to friends and family can lead to amusing exchanges.

“Sim racing doesn’t ring a bell for most people, so I usually explain that we make car racing simulators. Some people think we’re making toys – until they hear the price,” he laughs.

Strandman understands the confusion, but he emphasizes that sim racing can become a serious passion. Simucube’s products are built for performance, with first-class quality reflected in their price.

“You can start with basic gear, but once you’re hooked, you want the best. It’s the same with any hobby, like fishing. Higher-end products use stronger components and have more sophisticated designs.”

He takes pride in the craftsmanship behind Simucube’s products, which are high-end items you won’t find anywhere else in Finland. Strandman appreciates that Simucube is committed to constant improvement, driven by customer feedback.

“The culture here is focused on creativity and development. Innovation is a big part of what people do here.”

An entrepreneurial spirit

Beyond the products, Strandman is inspired by Simucube’s atmosphere and culture. He values the openness, flat hierarchy, and even the small, everyday perks.

“In bigger companies, there’s more red tape, and decisions take longer. Here, you have more ownership and can act independently, but you get support when you need it. To me, that’s real entrepreneurial spirit.”

“The culture is also reflected in the fact that people actually want to come to the office, even though work conditions are flexible. The atmosphere is genuinely good. I know everyone says that, but here, it’s really true,” Strandman says with a laugh.

Strandman sees Simucube’s entrepreneurial spirit in the broad scope of his role. He has the chance to make a meaningful impact in an engaging environment.

“With growing companies, it’s typical to have a lot on your plate and broadly defined roles. It’s great to be part of developing new things and to gain exposure to different areas, especially early in my career,” Strandman concludes.
