Tips and tricks for rally driving

Want to drive rally? Curious about the rally setup we use at Simucube HQ? This blog is for you. Antti, our sales manager, shares his rally tips and the exact setup we use here. Antti knows a thing or two about speed – he once held the World Record for Rally Oceania in EA Sports WRC.

Antti’s tips for rally driving

If you’re starting with rally, these tips will help. Rally isn’t just about speed – it’s about control. Listening to pace notes is key. If you’re not used to them, here’s a simple rule: match the gear to the corner number. For example, if the note says “3,” approach in third gear and build your pace up from there.

For modern four-wheel-drive cars, Antti has two core tips:

  1. Always keep the car engaged – either accelerate or brake. This keeps the car stable and responsive.
  2. Control spins with throttle – if you’re losing control, keep the throttle pressed and point the wheel to the direction you want to go. Four-wheel-drive cars tend to self-correct based on your steering input.

Simucube HQ rally setup

Here’s the exact rally setup Antti uses at Simucube HQ:

For software, Antti relies on the official Simucube rally profile which can be found from True Drive Paddock. This profile is optimized for rally, and here’s why:

  • Force feedback strength: Set to 16.8 Nm. This gives a strong but manageable feel. The Pro wheelbase maxes out at 25 Nm, so you still have headroom if needed.
  • Steering range: Set to 540 degrees. This allows the quick steering inputs that rally driving requires.
