“A match made in heaven” – Motorsports enthusiast Antti Salonen found his dream job at Simucube
Sometimes, passion leads you exactly where you need to be. This was the case for Antti Salonen, who now works as a Sales Manager at Simucube. Working in the sim racing industry has been a dream come true for Salonen – a path he hadn’t expected would become reality.
“I’ve always been into cars and fascinated by everything related to them. I love following motorsports, like Formula and rally racing. I’ve even tried sim racing myself,” Salonen shares.
Through his passion for motorsports, Salonen was already familiar with Simucube. Discovering the company was based in Tampere was an exciting surprise.
“I was stunned. I used to work near Simucube’s office, passing by their logo in the windows every day. I’d look at it and think, ‘Wow, they’re right here.’ But I didn’t dare dream of actually working there.”
That changed when Salonen saw a recruitment ad for a Sales Specialist at Simucube. He knew immediately that he had to apply.
“It felt like a perfect fit – a car and motorsports enthusiast with a background in sales. The chance to work here just struck a chord with me.”
Products you can believe in
Salonen has now been with Simucube for almost three years, progressing to a Sales Manager role. He now focuses on B2B sales, managing a client base of about forty companies. His goal is to keep the customers happy and grow sales, and his prior experience with sim racing products has been a valuable asset.
“It’s definitely helpful. My familiarity with the products helps me understand how our customers think. I’ve tried products from other manufacturers, so I know what sets ours apart.”
Salonen emphasizes that Simucube’s products are built to last, with high quality, durable components, and no unnecessary frills. As an enthusiast, he values their usability as much as their longevity.
“Our products are stable and reliable, designed to stand the test of time. They’re also very user-friendly, which really makes them stand out,” he reflects.
For any salesperson, believing in the products you represent is essential. Selling products that have the respect of the user community is a big advantage; even “cold calls” feel different when people are eager to hear from Simucube.
“I always get a warm welcome when reaching out to new suppliers. People seem genuinely happy to hear from Simucube, and that’s not something you find in every industry.”
A sense of togetherness and accomplishment
While selling high-quality products is gratifying, what truly elevates Salonen’s work is the chance to interact with motorsport legends.
“I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy it when famous drivers visit our office. For example, we have collaborated with Finnish F1 driver Mika Salo. For a motorsport fan like me, that was incredible – I could hardly believe it was part of my job,” Salonen laughs.
Beyond working with motorsport icons, Salonen appreciates the team spirit at Simucube. He especially enjoys product launch days, where everyone collaborates and celebrates the success.
“Those events foster a real sense of togetherness and accomplishment. I love being part of it. Overall, people here are friendly and supportive and create an excellent atmosphere.”
A career full of possibilities
Reflecting on his career, Salonen can hardly believe the journey he’s been on – meeting motorsport stars, working with top-tier products, and discovering something unexpected.
“It surprised me how people-centric Simucube is. The flexibility and the understanding that we have lives outside of work are refreshing. If you need time off, there’s no hesitation. Employee well-being is a top priority because if that slips, everything else follows.”
Simucube shows its commitment to employee well-being in various ways, from experimenting with a four-day workweek to sponsoring sports activities.
“For example, I ran my first half marathon, fully sponsored by the company. I’ll have to do it again, though, since I was a bit disappointed with my time,” he adds with a chuckle.
Other than that minor marathon disappointment, Salonen has thoroughly enjoyed his time at Simucube.
“There are so many opportunities here. If you get a chance, take it. I believe those opportunities will benefit you in the long run,” Salonen concludes.
