Simucube's dashboard selection grows, with BavarianSimTec and SimHub

BavarianSimTec wheel

A deeper collaboration with BavarianSimTec's PitStopApp, and new SimHub support for every Simucube Link wheel.

At Simucube, our products don't stop evolving once they ship, and a lot of that evolution comes directly from what you, our community, tell us. One thing the community has been clear about for a while: you want more freedom in how you set up your dashboards. That freedom is growing soon on two fronts, a deeper collaboration with BavarianSimTec's PitStopApp, and new SimHub support across our Simucube Link wheels.

A quick note if you're new to Simucube: our Link wheels don't connect over USB. They talk to the wheelbase through Simucube LightBridge, a contactless system built into the quick release that sends power and data using infrared light and induction, no cables, no batteries, no wear points. Read more about LightBridge here.

Growing our collaboration with BavarianSimTec

BavarianSimTec was one of Simucube's two main technology partners when Simucube 3 launched a year ago. They were among the firsts to ship a Simucube Link compatible wheel, the Simucube x BavarianSimTec Delta Pro SC, right at that launch, and one of the launch partners behind the Link Wheel Module, the open hardware foundation other wheel builders now use to connect to Simucube 3.

"We’re extremely proud to have developed the new Dash Streaming technology together with Simucube! SimucubeLink wheels now offer the same cross-platform capabilities as USB wheels. Explore our new dashboards in the PitStopApp or dive into the most advanced LED profiles available through SimHub. And now, you can do all of that on your Delta PRO SC”

- the BavarianSimTec Team on the Dash Streaming feature launch.

A year on, and that collaboration keeps on growing. Getting the Simucube 3 and Delta Pro SC combination to feel like one finished, polished package has taken continued work on both sides, and it's paying off now with PitStopApp, BavarianSimTec's own dashboard and configuration software. Delta Pro SC owners running Simucube 3 will be able to use a dashboard built specifically for their wheel and tune them to their own taste, alongside the Tuner and SimHub options every Link wheel now has.

SimHub support for every Simucube Link wheel available now

For a long time, if you asked why Simucube didn't support SimHub, the honest answer was: we didn't think it was possible.

Our two dashboards in Tuner were a solid baseline, and they worked well for many drivers. But SimHub mattered more to people choosing a wheel than we expected, with its own dashboard ecosystems such as Lovely Dashboard, LED profiles, and way of mapping buttons.

Simucube Link wheels don't talk over USB, they connect through Simucube LightBridge, which meant SimHub had no standard way to see them as a supported device. Getting there took real engineering.

The process started from Simucube’s own hackathon event prototype which was done by Senior Software Developer Lassi Hämäläinen. This prototype proved SimHub support could work, and the team spent the following months turning that into something reliable enough to ship.

"Initial hackathon version barely worked but proved the concept. Getting it to work reliably and with good performance required a lot of iteration and improvements to both LightBridge communication handling and video compression," Hämäläinen says.

SimHub support is here now for every current and upcoming Simucube Link wheel, both the display-equipped ones and the LED-only ones.

What changes for your setup?

Your exact options depend on your wheel, but for every Simucube Link wheel, there's more choice than before:

  • Tuner's own built-in dashboards are still there, and still being developed.

  • Every Link wheel can now also run SimHub's dashboard library, control mapper, and LED profiles, added from the Devices list like any other supported device.

  • If you're running a Simucube x BavarianSimTec Delta Pro SC, PitStopApp will add a third option, built specifically BavarianSimTec wheels.

If your wheel doesn't have a screen, SimHub can still drive its LEDs, shift lights, flags, damage warnings, and more, since LightBridge already carries that data. SimHub's control mapper also lets you set up your buttons once and keep that mapping across every game, even when you switch between Link wheels and USB wheels.

This isn't limited to SimHub. The same underlying functionality is available publicly through the Simucube API, with support for switching between multiple sources, so it is possible to build or integrate systems to show notifications or other content in place of your dashboard whenever you like.

What's next for the dashboard ecosystem

This is just the beginning. Our dashboard ecosystem keeps growing because our community keeps telling us what matters, and both of these updates exist because enough of you asked for them. We're listening, and we'll keep building on this.

Our long-term vision, one click to race, hasn't changed. Every update like this is a step toward it.

The Link wheel lineup itself is growing too: this year alone, new Simucube Link wheels are coming from GSI (Artemis SC), Heusinkveld (One SC), VPG (the Porsche Cup Wheel and their new Porsche wheel), and Delta Simtec (EVO2 SC, GT and BB-SC), alongside the continued work with BavarianSimTec (Omega Pro V2 SC).

We didn't think SimHub support was possible. Our engineers proved otherwise, and that same spirit is behind everything we're building with BavarianSimTec.

Thank you, community, for the feedback.
